Comets shut out Truckers on Senior Night

The Waupaca girls’ soccer team picked up three recent Eastern Valley Conference wins.

The Comets handed Clintonville a 4-0 defeat May 5, beat Ripon 4-1 May 2 and picked up a 4-2 win April 29 over Little Chute.

Waupaca 4, Clintonville 0
WAUPACA – Maleva Butkiewicz, Alyssa Nicewander, Sierra Patzke and Anna Abrams found the net for Waupaca, as the Comets outshot the Truckers 17-1.

Butkiewicz and Nicewander scored in a four-minute stretch in the first half, while Patzke and Abrams scored in a three-minute span in the second.
Lizzi Hanke had two assists for Waupaca, while Ivy Miller had one.

“The team is beginning to move the ball better with each game,” coach Mark Polebitski said. “The girls are keeping their heads up and finding the open player. Lizzi Hanke plays with her head up as well as anyone. She sees the field and makes plays. She had two wonderful assists to set up two great goals.”

The win also came on Senior Night.

“We have 10 senior players on the varsity squad this season,” Polebitski said. “They are an excellent bunch to work with. This team loves the game and enjoys every day we get together as a team.”

Waupaca 4, Ripon 1
RIPON – Waupaca outshot the Tigers 24-2, but Ripon took an early lead on Claudia Fink’s unassisted goal nine minutes into the game.
Adams tied the game with a goal off of an assist from Nicewander and also gave the Comets the lead for good a minute into the second half, with Carla Ikert getting credit for the assist. Sierra Patzke added two goals later in the half off of assists from Hanke and Gabby Avery.

Waupaca 4, Little Chute 2
WAUPACA – The Comets took a 3-2 lead into halftime on goals from Nicewander, Hanke and Patzke. Nicewander also scored for Waupaca in the second half. Hanke had a pair of assists, while Butkiewicz and Nicewander finished with one each.
