Comets come up short in championship game

The Waupaca girls’ soccer team made it to the championship game of the Comet Invitational May 17, but came out on the short end of a 3-0 decision to Marshfield.

Waupaca also dropped a 4-1 Eastern Valley Conference decision May 15 to Fox Valley Lutheran.

Waupaca 2, Mosinee 0

Lizzi Hanke scored both of Waupaca’s goals off of assists from Alyssa Nicewander.
Josee Waitrovich stopped both of Mosinee’s shots on goal.

Waupaca 3, North Fond du Lac 0
North Fond du Lac outshot the Comets 10-7, but Maleva Butkiewicz scored twice and Hanke found the net again. Nicewander had two assists, while Hanke added one.

Marshfield 3, Waupaca 0
The wins put the Comets in the championship game against the Tigers.
Darian Molter scored all three of Marshfield’s goals.

FVL 4, Waupaca 1
Hanke cut into the Foxes’ 3-0 lead with 13 minutes left in the game, but FVL added an insurance goal. Sierra Patzke had the assist on Hanke’s goal.
