Plowing with antique tractors

Every spring the fields need to be plowed.

Every spring the antique tractors plow one field in the area.

On Saturday, May 10, a fleet of 17 tractors and plows gathered at the Gordon Peterson farm, just south of Scandinavia.

The spring plowing event has become a ritual for the Central Wisconsin Tractor Club.

It is a chance to get the antique tractors in the field, get together with other collectors, and preserve a piece of history. It also gives the old-timers a chance to reminisce.

Laverne Kienert, of Waupaca, enjoyed seeing the vintage tractors and plows. It reminded him of the days he spent farming with his wife, Avis, in the town of Waupaca. He is 88.

“I did this all my life. Now I just come and watch,” Kienert said. “It makes me feel bad that I can’t do it anymore.”

Organizers of this year’s event were Jerry Rasmussen, John Otterson and Gary Otterson.

“Besides preserving history, the purpose of the club is to have fun with family and friends,” John Otterson said.
