Comets fall in regional final

Adams-Friendship ended the season for the Waupaca softball team for the second year in a row.

The Green Devils handed the Comets a 4-1 defeat May 29 in a Division 2 regional final in Friendship. The Comets advanced to the championship after knocking off Ripon 9-4 May 27.

A-F 4, Waupaca 1
ADAMS – Emma Roenneburg had a big day at the plate and on the mound for A-F, as she held the Comets to three hits and had two of her team’s six hits, a double and a triple.
Waupaca’s Jolie Borntrager held the Green Devils off of the scoreboard until A-F came up with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning and added three more in the fifth.
Waupaca’s run came in the top of the seventh.
A-F faced New London in Waupaca June 3 in a sectional semifinal.

Waupaca 9, Ripon 4
WAUPACA – The visiting Tigers took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, but Waupaca came up with four runs in the third before adding two more in the fourth and fifth and one in the sixth.

Ripon cut the Comets’ lead to 4-3 in the top of the fourth, but the Comets outscored them 5-1 the rest of the way.

Mandy Tomlinson, Lindsay Reach and Bobbi Sue Sell had two of Waupaca’s nine hits. Tomlinson and Sell also drove in a pair of runs each.

Borntrager picked up the win on the mound.
