W-F FFA members receive awards

The 78th annual FFA Banquet was held May 2, in the Weyauwega-Fremont High School Auditorium.

The evening included a meal, awards earned throughout the year, speeches and the installation of the 2014-15 officer team.

The speakers were Jeremy Schroeder, principal of W-F middle and high schools, and Reba McClone, state FFA officer from the Bonduel FFA chapter.

A highlight of the evening was the FFA slideshow, which showcased the events that occurred this year.

The W-F FFA chapter appreciates the support it receives from parents, administrators, teachers, staff, alumni and community members.

This year, the Distinguished Service Award was presented to Jeff Knorr, and the Honorary FFA Degree was given to Connie Abert.

The FFA degrees were awarded to members.

Those degrees include the Discovery Degree, Greenhand Degree and Chapter FFA Degree.

Recognized for receiving their state FFA degrees were Liz Hillskotter, Taylor Miller, Taylor Kester, Olivia Fedja and Logan Erdmann.

The following will be recognized at the National FFA Convention this fall for receiving their American FFA degrees: Mark Buchholtz, Kalyn Schwartz, Dustin Hanes, Maggie Knecht, Teal Tomaszewski, Dani Austreng, Jane Beyer and Sydney DeSantis.

The Star awards were awarded to members, including to Joan Radtke, Outstanding Seventh Grader; Josie Bosquez, Star Discovery; Jesse La Mie, Star Greenhand; and Ryan Ebert, Star Chapter.

Outstanding Junior went to Olivia Kester, and Outstanding Senior went to Maggie Lind.

The Community Service Award went to Georgia Radtke and Melano Durmishidze, and the Leadership Award went to Liz Hillskotter.

The FFA chapter had 10 members receive State Golds on their proficiency awards.

Brandon Loehrke placed 14th in Dairy Production. Maggie Knecht placed eighth in Home and Community Development and sixth in Agricultural Education.

Sydney DeSantis placed seventh in Equine Science. Teal Tomaszewski placed seventh in Home and Community Development and fifth in Agricultural Education.

Jane Beyer placed seventh in Swine Production. Danielle Austreng placed fifth in Small Animal Production & Care.

Alexis Kloehn placed fifth in Beef Production. Mark Buchholtz placed fifth in Dairy Production.
They will be highlighted at the State FFA Convention with a slide show of their program and a special booth. They will also receive a check from the foundation.

FFA honor cords are given to seniors who have received their state FFA degrees, to wear at their graduation.

Receiving them this year were Maggie Lind, Alexis Kloehn, Georgia Radtke, Taylor Kester, Jamie Seward, Logan Erdmann and Olivia Fedja. Receiving Most Improved awards were Katelyn Loehrke, Jenna Mathwig, Karlie Grundman, Karolanne Johnson and Glenn Walbourn.

Students who participated in the CDE’s, speaking contests and who had outstanding grade point averages were also recognized.

Maggie Lind received a $2,000 Abe Cohen Scholarship.

Jane Beyer received a National FFA Scholarship of $1,000 and Olivia Fedja received a $250 Christy Brewer Scholarship.

The banquet concluded with the election of the 2014-15 FFA officer team.

Serving as officers will be Olivia Kester, historian; Brandon Hanes, sentinel; Karlie Grundman, reporter; Hannah Sroka, treasurer; Kaitlyn Hickey, secretary; Liz Hillskotter, vice president; and Ryan Ebert, president.
