Golfers compete at state

Four area golfers competed June 9-10 at the WIAA State Boys’ Golf Championship at Verona’s University Ridge Golf Course.

New London’s Austin Elsner tied for 37th place in Division 1 after carding rounds of 81 and 76 for a two-day total of 157.

Iola-Scandinavia’s Nolan Wolberg tied for 26th in Division 3 after rounds of 91 and 81 (172); and Weyauwega-Fremont’s Alex Hulbert placed 41st in Division 3 with a two-day total of 193 that included rounds of 96 and 97.

Another Weyauwega-Fremont golfer, David Niemuth, advanced to state, but withdrew and did not place.

Mequon Homestead, Waukesha Catholic Memorial and Lancaster won team championships in division 1-3, respectively, while individual medalists were Kaylor Steger of Oak Creek in Division 1, Chris Colla of Winnebago Lutheran in Division 2 and Thomas Longbella of Chippewa Falls McDonell Central in Division 3.
