Manawa youth Get Science

Educator and entertainer Steve Belliveau will present “Get Science!” at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at the Sturm Memorial Library.

This fast paced-show incorporates large props, music and humor as well as audience participation all in an effort to get young people engaged in science.

Belliveau has been a science educator since 1987 and has appeared on TV and radio. He has performed his show to thousands of children in the Midwest at schools, libraries and museums.

Tes program is designed for youth ages kindergarten through fifth grade, but all ages are welcome. Anyone 7 and under must be accompanied by a responsible party.

The Get Science show is one of several special events for the Sturm Memorial Library’s 2014 summer program Fizz Boom! Read, which runs through July. The program has been a great success with 218 children signed up so far.

Youth ages 0-16 may sign up any time during the eight-week program. Most of the reading and other activities can be done independently, making it adaptable to the busy schedules of participants and their families.

This year participants who complete a self-designed reading challenge will get a book of their choice at the end of the program. If participants also complete a set of activities they can have another book donated to the library in their name.

The cost for the books is covered by donations from the Manawa business community.

The summer program also has a full schedule of programs for young people throughout the eight-week program.
