Clippers beat Waupaca

The New London Clippers overcame an early deficit July 20 to beat Waupaca 6-5 on a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning.

In other recent action, the Clippers beat Little Chute, but lost to Appleton Post 38 and Bay Port.

New London 6, Waupaca 5 (8 inn.)
Joe Schuster drove in the winning run for the Clippers to score Austyn Walbruck, who had singled and moved to second on Casey Hofherr’s bunt.

Waupaca had taken a 5-2 lead by plating four runs after a two-out error in the fifth, but the Clippers responded by sending eight batters to the plate, scoring three runs on four hits to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. Schuster struck out two batters in the top of the eighth before coming up with the game-winning hit. He pitched three innings to earning the win and struck out six batters.

Schuster, Hofherr, Jake Pinch and Tommy Thurber had two hits each for New London.

New London 5, Little Chute 0
Lane Hanadel pitched a complete-game shutout, scattering three hits and forcing Little Chute into two double plays while striking out four batters.

The Clipper offense cranked out eight hits, scoring three runs in the first inning and two in the third. Ryan Wolf had three hits, including a double. He scored a run and also stole a base. Mike Kercher added two hits while stealing two bases and scoring a run.

Appleton Post 38 7, New London 6
Three walks and an error helped Appleton take a 3-0 lead after one inning. Post 38 increased its lead to 4-0 after 2 1/2 innings, but the Clippers scored three in the bottom of the third to close the gap and added two in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-4 lead.

Post 38 regained the lead with runs in the top of the sixth. New London started a rally in the bottom of the seventh, but could only score one run before Post 38 closed out the game.

The Clippers committed seven errors in the loss. Pinch led New London with three hits, two runs and a stolen base.

Bay Port 3, New London 1
Bay Port outhit the Clippers 7-4 while capitalizing on a triple in the fourth inning to earn a 3-1 victory July 15.

Bay Port scored one run in the top of the third and two in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. New London scored one in the bottom of the fourth, but couldn’t put together a late rally.

Tyler Jagiello pitched for the Clippers and took the loss. He threw six innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs while striking out six.

Pinch led the offense with two hits, while Kercher added a base hit and scored the Clippers’ only run.
