Clintonville woman charged with car theft

Jessica L. Malone, 37, Clintonville, was charged with taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, obstructing an officer and operating after revocation.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, Waupaca County Sheriff’s Deputy Clint Thobaben responded to a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 45 in Bear Creek.

When he arrived, Thobaben found a Ford Escort in a front yard and a woman, identified as Malone, being treated by ambulance personnel.

According to the criminal complaint, Malone told Thobaben that the driver had run off into a cornfield after the crash. However, several witnesses said they saw Malone exit the car from the driver’s side.

Thobaben spoke with the owner of the car. She reported it had been stolen while her son was in the process of moving and packing his belongings into the car. He had left the keys in the ignition.

Malone was convicted of a second drunken driving offense in May 2007 and her driver’s license revoked. It has not been reinstated since then, the complaint says.
