Cordes honored in Manawa

Sandra Cordes of Manawa has been recognized for her contributions to the Manawa community.

Cordes was recently selected to receive free fuel from Tanks of Thanks, a program that rewards people who do good deeds to help make their community just a little bit better.

She was nominated for her dedication to being a teacher at Little Wolf High School. She is a tireless classroom teacher, the FFA advisor, a new teacher mentor, a class advisor and event coordinator.

Cordes is also involved in other community organizations such as Manawa CARES.

The Tanks of Thanks program is sponsored by CHS and Cenex retailers. The program encourages people to nominate friends, family and neighbors for free fuel as a way to say thank you for doing good in the community.

Each month, CHS and Cenex retailers give away more than $5,000 in free fuel through the Tanks of Thanks program.

Cordes received a $50 Tanks of Thanks gift card, which is redeemable at any Cenex location.

She was nominated for the award by an associate, Amy Anaya, who has been a teacher for 20 years.

In her nomination statement, Anaya said:

“I have known Mrs. Cordes as a community member, parent, and as a professional associate in teaching. She works most nights past 7 p.m. and can even be found at school on weekends. She is tireless as a classroom teacher, the FFA advisor, new teacher mentor, class advisor, think pink coordinator, and innumerable special events hosted by her organizations she advises. As a teacher she has inspired me and countless others.”

“I am honored to have been nominated for the Cenex Tanks of Thanks Program by a colleague and friend from the Manawa School District,” Cordes said.

She expressed appreciation to Cenex for “paying it forward” and investing in communities.

“The program has inspired me to thank others who strive to make a difference in Waupaca County,” she said.

“There are people doing good things in every local community, and these acts of kindness do not go unnoticed or unappreciated,” said Akhtar Hussain, CHS refined fuels brand marketing manager. “Nominating someone for Tanks of Thanks is easy, and anyone can nominate or be nominated for any act of kindness – big or small.”
