Barn quilts at Waupaca library

Four years ago, Shawano resident Jim Leuenberger was inspired by his travels through Iowa, Minnesota and Oregon to color the Shawano County landscape with barn quilts.

Now, 275 quilts later, Shawano County has the most barn quilts of any county in the United States.

Leuenberger, who helped paint more than 250 of those barn quilts, will speak about the Shawano County barn quilt project at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the Waupaca Area Public Library.

The program is free, open to the public and will be held in the lower-level meeting rooms.

The program is part of the library exhibit room’s current exhibit, “Art: No Canvas Required.”

Barn quilts are a featured part of this exhibit, which is open through Sept. 20 in the library’s lower-level exhibit room.
