New London man charged with battery

Theodore J. Guyette, 36, New London, is charged with substantial battery and disorderly conduct.

On Aug. 2, New London Police Officer Tom Algiers went to the Rainbow Motel where he met with a tenant who had a cloth over his right eye and a bloody and bruised face.

The man said he had been drinking that night and was not sure exactly what happened. He recalled sitting outside his room listening to music when somebody punched him.

Video from a motel surveillance camera showed Guyette approach the man. Although there is no sound, the two men can be seen talking, then Guyette walks away and the other man stands up and walks a few feet into the parking lot.

According to the criminal complaint, Guyette returns, punches the man in the face, knocking him down. While the man lays on the ground, apparently unconscious, Guyette bends over and punches him in the face, walks away, then returns and kicks him, the complaint says.
