Comet boys take third at T-Bird invite

Five area cross country runners turned in top-10 performances Sept. 2 at the Thunderbird Invitational.

Iola-Scandinavia hosted the annual meet at the Iola Winter Sports Complex.

Mitchell Rotta’s third-place finish in the boys’ race helped Waupaca place third, while Waupaca’s Michelle Petkovsek and Iola-Scandinavia’s Erika Kisting, Leighten Fischer and Shelby Trzebiatowski placed sixth, eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively, in the girls’ race.

Rotta crossed the finish line in 17:43 behind a pair of Sams, Freedom’s Sam Hinz and Winneconne’s Sam Engel. Also running for the Comet boys were Eric Bolwerk (10th, 18:45); Ryan Weise (14th, 18:53); Parker Sweeney (28th, 20:01); Ryan Esch (41st, 20:44); Ben Waitrovich (46th, 21:01); Bret Koski (49th, 21:40); Danny Esch (76th, 22:39); Eric Hemmila (105th, 24:02); Zack Thuerman (108th, 24:13); John Drivas (116th, 25:17); Endeavor Achten (121st, 25:47); August Kuffell (125th, 26:01); Dayton Bell (131st, 26:56); Isaac Barden (138th, 28:04); and Ryan Hemmila (146th, 30:59).

The Manawa boys placed 11th. Team results were Jared Zielke (44th, 20:57); Andrew Scheller (56th, 22:08); Daryn Claussen (66th, 23:23); Brad Grimm (71st (24:09); and Adam Michalowski (75th, 27:49).

I-S did not field a full boys’ team. Chase Przybylski led the T-Birds by placing 11th in 18:42. Other runners were Tyler Huffman (107th, 24:11); Sam Jarosh (127th, 26:08); and Trenton Niemi (143rd, 29:07).

Weyauwega-Fremont also did not carry a full boys’ team. Glenn Walborn had the top finish for the Indians, as he placed 117th in 25:25. Jeffrey Lehman placed 149th in 32:34.

Petkovsek finished the girls’ race in 21:11. Also running for the Waupaca girls, who placed eighth overall, were Victoria Nowak (31st, 23:46); Mya Snyder (40th, 24:26); MaKinzie Schultz (52nd, 25:44); Alisa Blank (55th, 26:11); Kristin Petkovsek (57th, 26:18); Lexi Tripp (66th, 28:01); and Ivy Miller (101st, 28:56).

The I-S girls placed fifth with Kisting turning in a time of 21:21. Also running for the T-Birds were Fischer (21:29); Trzebiatowski (21:46); Natalie Rustad (41st, 24:34); Ariana Garton (61st, 26:43); Mia Wandtke (72nd, 28:28); Emily Madson (73rd, 28:29); Abby Sullivan (108th, 29:31); and Sam Buss (112th, 30:08).

The Manawa girls placed 13th. Runners were Jody Wentworth (67th, 28:02); Lexi Smiles (69th, 28:08); Allison Bristol (83rd, 34:03); Josie Claussen (84th, 34:25); and Briana Severson (85th, 34:46).

W-F did not field a full girls’ team. Emily Durrant finished 76th in 26:32, while Caragan Volz was 125th in 31:59),
Freedom won the boys’ title, while Wausau East placed first among girls’ teams.
