Waupaca man charged with felony OWI

William J. Sanders, 32, Waupaca, is charged with a fifth drunken driving offense, failure to obey a traffic officer and operating after revocation.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, Waupaca Police Officer Clint Schroeder clocked a green S-10 pickup truck going 45 mph in a 35 mph on County Trunk QQ, south of West Fulton Street.

Schroeder followed the vehicle as it turned east onto Fulton, then activated his siren and lights in front of Goodwill.

According to the criminal complaint, the pickup failed to stop or slow down and continued at the same speed until it turned onto Hillcrest, then onto Center Street.

Schroeder followed the car for about a half-mile until it pulled into a driveway on Center Street. The driver, identified as Sanders, exited the car and began to walk away, the complaint says. Schroeder took him into custody.

Sanders reportedly had a 0.194 blood-alcohol level at the time of his arrest. He has four prior drunken driving convictions.
