Comets come back to beat Indians

Five-set matches are nothing new for the Weyauwega-Fremont volleyball team this season.

Three of the Indians’ four Central Wisconsin 8 Conference matches have gone to five games, with W-F winning all three of them.

However, they couldn’t make it four in a row Sept. 22, as Waupaca rallied from a 2-0 deficit and won the last three games to pick up the nonconference win.

W-F won the first two games 25-16, 25-21 and had match point twice in the third game. However, the Comets came back to win the third game 26-24 and wrapped up the match with 25-19 and 15-11 wins.

The match raised breast cancer awareness as well as funds to be used locally.

“That was great to be a part of and it was nice coming home with a win, even though it took us five games and getting off to a slow start,” Waupaca coach Chelsea Benitz said. “Tina Rasmussen recently started playing outside for us and is starting to hit pretty well. Sydney Brooks is hitting well for us, too, and Alyssa Nicewander is working hard to get them assists and had 35 for the night.”

Waupaca will host Berlin at 6:30 tonight (Thursday, Sept. 25), while the Indians will host Amherst at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30.
