Polar Bears swing past Spartans, Lightning

Following a tough one-stroke loss to the top team in the Fox Valley Association-South conference on Monday, the Polar Bears regrouped for a nice win against Oshkosh North on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Grand View Golf Club.

The Polar Bears posted a team score of 183, while the Spartans earned a 194.

Hortonville’s Chloe Crusan fired a 40 to lead all golfers, while Ashton Nelson followed with a 41. Abby Nelson shot a 49 and Abby Carns carded a 53 to round out Hortonville’s varsity scores.

JV golfer Halle Kalowitz carded a 61, while Sadie Thebo shot a 64 and Emily Groeber tallied a 65. Cara Byom rounded out Hortonville’s JV scores with a 70.

“On Monday, the girls shot a great score, but lost by one stroke,” said Coach Kathy Kiger. “To lose to the number one team in the conference by only one stroke just shows how far the team has come in the past month. On Tuesday night, the team once again was on the top of their game. Chloe (Crusan) had another great score, as did Ashton Nelson.”

The Polar Bears topped the Appleton North Lightning 191-204 on Thursday, Sept. 18, in their final home match of the season at Grandview Golf Club.

Crusan led the Polar Bears with a 43, while Ashton Nelson followed with a 46. Abby Nelson carded a 49, Bree Downie and Abbey Karns both shot a 53, and Jolie Beckman rounded out the scoring with a 56.
