Hart, Thomas John

Thomas John Hart, 58, died September 22 after a short courageous battle with cancer.

He was born the youngest son of Marvin and Mary Hart on August 31, 1956, in Reedsburg, WI. After graduating from Waupaca HS in 1975, Tom served in the Navy for 4 years. He sailed on the USS Kitty Hawk which allowed him to see the world. Tom was extremely proud of his naval service and he continued to serve his country by joining the Naval Reserves and later the National Guard. Tom became a good friend to many as owner/manager for 25 years at Wally World in King. (Anyone do the Wally Walk for a Lunch Box?) He was everyone’s favorite bartender for his humor and the kindest, biggest, gentlest heart; he would have given anyone the shirt off of his back. He went to Chef’s school, became a master gardener (anyone remember the palm tree?) and landscaped many homes in the Chain of Lakes area. Tom was a dog lover and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating on the Wolf River.

Tom is survived by his mother Mary Frances, brothers Larry and Rick (Sue), and sister Sue; nieces and nephews Matthew, Lee, Lisa, and Nate, very special friend Sherilyn Altman, other relatives and many, many friends. He is preceded in death by his father Marvin and brother-in-law Jim Hansen.

A funeral Mass will be conducted on Friday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca; Rosary will be said at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at noon. A military rights burial will be at the Veterans Cemetery. All are invited to Wally World after the services for a luncheon to celebrate Tom’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Help Shelter Dog Rescue in King. John J. Buettgen Funeral Home is assisting family at this time. On line condolences can be made at www.JJBFH.com
