Outagamie County acquires part of former Simmons property

Last week Outagamie County acquired three parcels of the former Simmons Property in New London, through tax foreclosure.

The three parcels are only a portion of the total property owned by Eric Spirtas. The three parcels (19, 20 and 21) are located directly on the North side of Beacon Ave.

Spirtas, owner of the property, failed to pay the delinquent property taxes prior to the final court hearing on Sept. 22.

New London City Administrator Kent Hager reported Spirtas paid all of the property taxes for the entire former Simmons property with the exception of six parcels that included the city’s demolition assessment on them. As of the final hearing, the amount of delinquent taxes owed on the six parcels was $246,020.

At the time of the final court hearing, the county removed the three northerly parcels from the foreclosure process because they had buildings on them. There was a concern because half of one of the buildings lies on tax parcels 14, 17 and 18.

The county is referring the matter to their attorney.
