Sperberg, Phyllis A.

Phyllis A. Sperberg, age 80, of Clintonville passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Shawano Medical Center.

The former Phyllis Ann Schneider was born on November 27, 1933 in Briarton to Arthur and Helen (Meister) Schneider.  She was raised in the Briarton area and attended school in Bonduel.  Phyllis graduated from Bonduel High School in 1951. She was united in marriage on May 2, 1953 to Gordon N. Sperberg in Seymour. Phyllis worked as a cook with the Clintonville High School for close to 30 years, retiring in 1994. Her husband Gordon preceded her in death on October 11, 1968 and she was always very proud to be a loving mother and homemaker for five boys. Phyllis’ oldest son, Gale, lived with her for many years and they watched out for each other. Phyllis was an excellent cook; she liked baking and making desserts, and canning food.  Her other interests included making pickles and jams, especially her strawberry freezer jam. She is a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church where she was active for so many years with the Ladies Aide. Phyllis volunteered at church with numerous funeral luncheons and knit mittens for various projects. Her main hobby was knitting and lots of family and friends received afghans, mittens, slippers, and scarves. Phyllis enjoyed spending time with family and was often concerned about how they were doing. 

Survivors include five sons: Gale Sperberg of Clintonville, Kevin (Holly) Sperberg of Stevens Point, Bryan (Lori) Sperberg of Clintonville, Gregory Sperberg of Marion, and Thomas (Charlene) Sperberg of Clintonville.  There are eight grandchildren: Jacob (fiancée Rebecca) Sperberg, Nikolaus Sperberg, Erica (Mark) Haas, Kayla Sperberg, Kristin Sperberg, Taylor Sperberg, Heather (friend Tony Jeske) Ritchie, and Michelle (Tom) Loberg.  There are six great-grandchildren; Dhonivan and Aedan Sperberg, Kara and Collin Haas, and Harper and Trevor Loberg.  She is further survived by four sisters-in-law: Marlene Schneider of Florida, Jean Tetting of Shawano, JoAnn Rogers of Neenah, and Patsy Gruetzmacher of Shawano. Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gordon, a sister, Marjorie (Oliver) Olson, and three brothers, Gordon (Jen) Schneider, Arthur (Marlene) Schneider, and an infant brother, Gary Schneider. 

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 20th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville.  Rev. Daniel Burns and Rev. Vilas Mazemke will officiate and burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville.  Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. The Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville, is assisting the family. The family wishes to thank all the nurses with Theda Care at Home Hospice for the excellent care provided allowing mother to retain independence for long.  We also wish to thank the staff at the Shawano Medical Center for their loving care.
