Dog Park event a howling good time

Dog lovers used their creativity to prepare their pups for a costume party, Saturday, Nov. 1 at New London Jaycees Dog Park.

Both big and little monsters ruled the site, located off Hwy. 54, just an eighth mile east of Shawano Street. Canines ranged from a tiny Yorkshire terrier to an impressive New Finland breed. Great Dane, Husky, Malamute, Labrador, Golden Retriever, and mixed breeds attended the fun.

City of New London Recreation Coordinator Ginger Arndt was host to nearly 50 dog enthusiasts. The serious about fun judge awarded prizes for Funniest, Scariest, and Most Creative Costume.

“This is a yearly event now, and the owners have time to share stories about their dogs with other dog lovers,” Arndt said. “Everyone is out in the fresh air, enjoying family time.”

Dog owners looking to visit the dog park for the first time can follow these common sense rules:

1. Never leave your dog unattended. 2. Dogs that show aggression should be removed immediately. 3. Children must be closely supervised. 4. No food in the Dog Park. 5. Use of Park is at your own risk. 6. All dogs must be current on vaccinations. 7. Do not bring a dog that is in heat. 8. Owners must clean up after their pets. Cleanup stations are available. 9. Dogs and owners creating a problem must leave upon request.

Donations collected during the Howl-ween event will aid the Waupaca Area Humane Society.
