Colden, Handferd

Handferd L. Colden – age 97 – of Waupaca, WI, died Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca, WI. 

He was born on January 25, 1917 in the Township of Lind, Waupaca County, WI, the son of Hans and Emma (Krueger) Colden. He married Beatrice I. Haffner on May 16, 1942 in Weyauwega, WI and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2010. Handferd is survived by two sons: Wayne Colden and James Colden, both of Waupaca, his daughter: Mary Colden of Waupaca, a grandson: Andrew (Elesha) Colden of Waupaca, and great grandchildren: Alexis and Bailey Colden. He is further survived by a brother-in-law: Frank Haffner, Jr of Menasha. Handferd was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Allen, and sisters: Elvina and Winnie. 

Handferd had been the owner/operator of Colden Plumbing and Heating in the Waupaca area since the first half of the last century. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. He had been a long time member of the WWWA(Wisconsin Well Water Association). He was a very hard worker and in his leisure time loved to travel. He enjoyed logging and liked Big Boy Toys such as bulldozers, back hoes, chainsaws, lawn mowers, and numerous complex tools that he could “play with”. He always enjoyed nice new cars and wearing nice suits. He worked hard to make sure his family had a better life than he had growing up. 

A Memorial service will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, WI on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 6:00 PM, with the Rev. Jennifer DeNetz, Pastor – Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Handferd L. Colden. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements. Handferd’s family would like to thank Cindy and the staff of the Garden Park House for the loving care shown Handferd in his final years. Thank You for allowing him to be the “hall monitor”.
