Dayton town caucus draws crowd

Contested races will be on the April 7 ballot for every seat on the Dayton Town Board.

More than 200 citizens came to the Dayton’s caucus Tuesday night to nominate candidates for town chairman, supervisors, clerk and treasurer.

The room was filled to capacity, with the members of the crowd standing against the walls and spilling out into the hallway.

Dave Armstrong was nominated to challenge incumbent Chris Klein to be Dayton’s town chairman.

For town clerk, Sue Popham will run against incumbent Judy Suhs.

Town Treasurer Brenda Hewitt will face challenger Tom Van Veen in the spring election.

Citizens nominated five candidates for the town’s two supervisors, then voted for two candidates. The top four candidates will appear on the April ballot.

• John Miller – 129 votes
• Mike Halpin – 79 votes
• Jane Haasch – 78 votes
• Jim Peglow – 77 votes
• Steve Arndt – 71 votes
