Kohel, Margaret A.

Margaret A. Kohel, age 87, of Clintonville passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015 at ThedaCare Medical Center, New London. 

The former Margaret Ann Koenigs was born June 25, 1927 in Adams, MN to Joseph and Rose Mary (Krebsbach) Koenigs. Margaret was raised in Minnesota and she moved to Milwaukee as a young lady. She was united in marriage on January 27, 1947 to John I. Kohel at Gesu Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Shortly after marriage the couple moved to the Iola area where they resided for 10 years and they started Kohel’s Evergreens. In 1963 they settled in Clintonville and continued to develop the tree farm. Margaret was also employed in the laundry area at Maple Lane Heath Care Center, Shawano, for some time. She helped her husband for many years with the tree farm, making garland, and selling Christmas trees. Margaret is a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and was active in various projects with the PCCW and she served meals with the funeral luncheon committee. She also volunteered at church taking communion to the homebound and teaching religious education for the youth. At the Clintonville Senior Center she gave of her time with the “meals-on-wheels” program. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, bird watching, playing sheepshead, and taking care of her grandchildren. Margaret kept up with current happenings and was excellent at solving the puzzles on Wheel of Fortune. Her husband preceded her in death on July 10, 2009 and she moved to Angelus Retirement Community two years ago. She cherished her time there and played cards with friends at Angelus (now known as Aster) every night at 5:30. Margaret was very proud to be a homemaker and will be remembered most as a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. 

Survivors include seven children: Robert (Darlene) Kohel of Clintonville, Gary (Donna) Kohel of Clintonville, Donald (Judy) Kohel of Tigerton, Kathy (James) Waite of Clintonville, Debra (Bill) Berwig of Clintonville, Karen (Greg) Husman of Appleton, and Mary (Glen) Zabel of Clintonville. There are 16 grandchildren: Chad, Amy, Brian, Meagan, Kris, Brad, Adam, Kelly, Alison, Andy, Tracy, Kasey, Briana, Kylie, John, and Jenna. There are 29 great-grandchildren: Seth, Gavin, Lyla, Quintin, Kaylie, Jordyn, Ian, Blaine, Malia, Barrett, Grady, Kobie, Bennett, Kyle, Alissa, Andrew, Karly, Madison, Izabelle, Myles, Boone, Grace, Abby, Anna, Arianna, Brenan, Jaden, Jaxen, and Javen. There are two sisters, Dorothy (Merlyn) Gunsalles of McIntire, IA, and Millie (Leo) Barnes of Grand Meadow, MN. She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Marcy Schroeder of Suring, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Margaret is preceded in death her parents; her husband, John; a grandson, Eric Kohel; a great granddaughter, Sydney Prickette, and nine of her siblings. 

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, February 6th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville. Inurnment will be in the spring in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. The Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville, is assisting the family. The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at ThedaCare Medical Center, New London, for the compassionate care given to mom. We also really appreciated the staff at Aster Retirement Community, Clintonville, for allowing Margaret to retain her independence.
