Bay Area took another step toward a second straight WIAA girls’ hockey championship.
The Ice Bears advanced to the sectional final round of the state tournament Feb. 24 with a 10-0 win over Waupaca Area, a team that came into the game with a 23-2 record, at the Cornerstone Community Center in Ashwaubenon.
Bay Area, a co-op team of players from Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, De Pere, Green Bay East, Green Bay Preble and Green Bay Notre Dame high schools, led 2-0 after one period and 5-0 after two periods before adding five more goals over the final 17 minutes.
Courtney Wittig had six goals and three assists on the night, while teammate Laken Anderson added two goals and two assists.
