Mrs. Doris M. Gunness, 96, of Iola, WI, went home to the Lord on March 25th, 2015 at Iola Living Assistance.
Doris was born in Hankinson, ND on Jan. 12, 1919, the daughter of the late Paul and Rosa (Diedrick) Berg. She married M. Donald Gunness on Oct 10, 1942 in Appleton. Doris graduated from Appleton H.S. in 1936. She graduated from UW Madison Nursing School in 1943. She worked at the UW Hospital for 25 years until her retirement. She enjoyed volunteering (Girl Scout Leader, Meals on Wheels, various ministries, Red Cross Blood Drives.) Doris enjoyed sewing, traveling, dancing, golf, gardening, and celebrating the holidays with family. She cherished time with her family; watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in school and athletic activities. She also loved watching Badger’s Football games!
She is survived by her daughters, Donna (Bob) Thompson of Iola, and Sandy (Don) Tatman of Cromwell, IN; four grandchildren, Andrew and Aaron Tatman of Syracuse IN, Jennifer (Tim) Wandtke of Scandinavia, WI, and Christine (Kevin) Makuck of Iron River, MI; five great-grandchildren: Mia, Kellan and Carly Wandtke of Scandinavia, WI, Jessi and Wyatt Makuck of Iron River, MI. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Don, and brother Cliff Berg.
A Memorial Service will be held at Scandinavia Lutheran Church on Monday, June 22, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Mark Sabin will officiate. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Scandinavia Lutheran Church, Theda Care At Home Hospice, and Iola Living Assistance.
