Bulldogs eager to hit the links

Five returning letter winners will help the Bulldog varsity golf team defend their co-Bay Conference championship from last year, which they shared with Marinette.

The Bulldogs went undefeated in conference play last year, and the team will host a WIAA Regional this year, giving “home field advantage” to a group of golfers with a lot of skill and experience.

Seniors Sam Porath and Tristan Kempf both have three years of varsity experience, while junior Mitch Dey has played varsity for two years. Sophomores Matt Fletcher and Landon Elsner both have one year of experience, and Elsner was a First Team All-Bay Conference selection last year as a freshman.

Other varsity candidates include Hunter Zaddack and Carter Thomson.

Austin Elsner, who led the team last year, is the only player the Bulldogs have lost to graduation.

“The battle for the Bay Conference title this year should come down to two teams—New London and Marinette,” said Head Coach Andy Fuhs, who has been coaching for 10 years. “I expect Landon Elsner to continue the success he had last season. He works on his game and should improve a lot this year.”
