Overman wins hurdle event

Waupaca’s boys’ and girls’ track teams competed at recent meets in Wautoma and Wausau.

The boys placed second in Division 2 April 10 at the Wautoma Invitational, while the girls placed sixth April 9 at Warrior Invitational at Wausau West.

Wautoma Invitational

WAUTOMA – Christian Overman won the 110-meter hurdles event in 15.47 for the Comets’ only first-place finish.

He also placed second in the 300-meter hurdles and third in the triple jump.

Miguel Barraza placed second in the pole vault, third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 110 hurdles.

The 3,200-meter relay team of Erik Bolwerk, Ryan Wiese, Mitchell Rotta and Aavery Grant placed third; Brandon Anderson and Bolwerk placed fourth in the 400-meter dash and 3,200-meter run, respectively; Blake Orr and Travis Heschke placed fifth in the shot put; and long jump, respectively; and Derrick Rotta finished sixth in the discus.

Warrior Invitational

WAUSAU – Michelle Petkovsek finished second in the 400-meter dash and third in the 800-meter run.

Tatiana Sotka took third in the 200-meter dash and fourths went to Alisa Blank in the 200-meter hurdles and the eight-lap relay team of Sotka, Cassie Rasmussen, Avrey Simonson and Blank.

Simonson placed fifth in the long and triple jumps; Sotka took fifth in the 55-meter dash; the 1,600-meter relay team of Simonson, Kristin Petkovsek, Christina Rasmussen and Mya Snyder finished sixth and Blank took seventh in the 55-meter hurdles.

The Comets will head to Little Chute Saturday, April 18, for the Little Chute Invitational, which will get under way at 10 a.m. and include teams from Clintonville, Freedom, Little Chute, Green Bay Notre Dame, Kaukauna, Mishicot, Oshkosh North, Weyauwega-Fremont, Two Rivers, Sheboygan North, Cedar Grove-Belgium, Gillett and Nekoosa.

Waupaca will also compete at home for the first time Monday, April 20, as the Comets host Fox Valley Lutheran and Winneconne at 4:15 p.m.
