Wolves sweep Comets

Winneconne swept a pair of Eastern Valley Conference softball games from Waupaca April 24.

The Wolves handed the Comets an 8-1 defeat in the first game and completed the sweep with a 9-2 win in the second game.

Winneconne took a 4-0 lead in the opener with two runs in the first and third innings. Waupaca got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third, but the Wolves answered with three more runs in the fourth and one more in the seventh.

Mandy Tomlinson had two of Waupaca’s six hits in the game, while Winneconne’s Hannah Peerenboom had three hits, including a home run and a triple, and drove in a pair of runs.

Waupaca came up with a run in the top of the first inning of the second game, but Winneconne took the lead for good with four runs in the second. The Comets cut the lead to 4-2 with a run in the third, but the Wolves extended their lead with a run in the bottom of the third and four more in the fourth.

Victoria Nowak had three of Waupaca’s seven hits, while Tomlinson added two more hits and Kat Otter hit a solo home run.

The Comets will play at Ripon at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, April 30, and head to Appleton Xavier Monday, May 4, for a rescheduled EVC matchup with the Hawks.
