?Take the Stage’ on May 15

Art, music and poetry will mix at “Take the Stage,” a new event set for Friday, May 15, in downtown Waupaca.

It will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, May 15, at Little Fat Gretchen’s and will include a raffle of gallery quality two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork by local artists and also the headliner band Kyerokaya.

Admission will be $5 at the door.

Take the Stage is being sponsored by the Waupaca Community Arts Board. All funds raised at it will go toward other WCAB events, such as Arts on the Square, the Bach Festival and the Irish Wake.

Danielle Halverson and Zenith Stoeveken are spearheading Take the Stage.

They began thinking about putting together such an event after the arts board held Chick Night at Little Fat Gretchen’s in February.

“We just wanted to do something for our generation,” said Halverson.

Local artists are donating artwork for the raffle.

On the evening of the event, people will pay $20 and then receive the number of raffle tickets equal to how long they stretch out their arm.

“Beginning Monday of that week, we will be setting up,” Stoeveken said. “The 2D artwork will be put up already. We will keep adding as artists bring art in throughout the week.”

People will place their raffle tickets in jars by the artwork they are interested in winning, and do not need to be present to win.

Kyerokaya, a reggae band featuring Waupaca native John Laedtke, will begin playing around 8 p.m.

“There will be other performers before that, as well as during the band’s break. That can include music, poetry,” Stoeveken said.

It will be a family friendly event.

Little Fat Gretchen’s full menu will be available until 8 p.m. Beer, wine, espresso drinks and bakery will also be available throughout the evening.
