Waupaca sweeps double header

Appleton Xavier handed Waupaca an 8-3 loss May 4 in a matchup of Eastern Valley Conference softball teams.

Meanwhile the Comets swept a doubleheader from Berlin April 28.

Xavier 8, Waupaca 3

APPLETON – Mandy Tomlinson had four of Waupaca’s eight hits in a loss to the Hawks.

Xavier took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the third, but Waupaca tied the game with in the fifth.

However, the Hawks regained the lead with five runs in the bottom of the fifth before both teams scored once in the sixth.

Kat Otter had two hits for Waupaca.

Waupaca 13, Berlin 3 (6 inn.)

WAUPACA – A nine-run second inning helped the Comets top the Indians in the first game.

Markie Ash had three of Waupaca’s nine hits, while Tomlinson added two and Alyssa Engebretson got the win on the mound.

Waupaca 6, Berlin 2

WAUPACA – The Comets scored twice in the first inning, once in the third and three times in the seventh, while Berlin scored twice in the fourth.

Ash and Tomlinson led Waupaca with three and two hits, respectively, and Lexi Schuelke held the Indians to five hits to get the win.

The Comets hosted Wrightstown May 5 and will play at Freedom today (Thursday, May 7). Waupaca will also host Iola-Scandinavia at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 8.
