Four local athletes win events

Four area athletes won multiple events at their respective conference track meets May 16.

Weyauwega-Fremont’s Caragan Volz and Iola-Scandinavia’s Kristian Welch and Erika Kisting won two individual events at the Central Wisconsin Conference meet at Goerke Field in Stevens Point, while Waupaca’s Tatiana Sotka won two events at the Eastern Valley Conference meet at Xavier High School in Appleton.

Volz, Welch and Sotka were also members of winning relay teams.

CWC meet
STEVENS POINT – Bonduel and Wittenberg-Birnamwood won boys’ and girls’ championships, respectively.
Team scores for the boys were Bonduel (149), Iola-Scandinavia (104), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (84), Amherst (74), Manawa (73), Pacelli (59), Shiocton (57) and Weyauwega-Fremont (53). Team scores for the girls were Wittenberg-Birnamwood (180), Bonduel (105.5), Iola-Scandinavia (93.5), Weyauwega-Fremont (91), Pacelli (79), Manawa (42), Shiocton (32) and Amherst (28).

Volz won the girls’ 100-meter hurdles event in 15.93 and the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 7 3/4 inches. She also joined Miranda Arndt, Mikaela Hintz and Hannah Sroka on the winning 400-meter relay team (53.15) and Hintz, Becky Schroeder and Sroka on the winning 800-meter relay team (1:52.5).

Welch won the boys’ 100- and 200-meter dashes (11.27, 22.5) and joined Tanner Krusa, Kollin Staszak and Dylan Robbins on the winning 1,600-meter relay team (3:30.14).

Kisting won the girl’s 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs (5:20.69, 11:52.05).

Other conference champions include Robbins in the boys’ 400-meter dash (51.58); Manawa’s Austin Wagner in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles (16.64); Krusa in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles (43.23); Weyauwega-Fremont’s boys’ 400-meter relay team of Carl Koch, Dylan Pankow, Payton Magdanz and Corey Schmidt (46.5); and Manawa’s boys’ 800-meter relay team of Daniel Teuscher, Zach Kreklow, Wagner and Tanner Meyer (1:33.99).

EVC meet
APPLETON – Sotka was named the meet’s most outstanding runner after she won the girls’ 100 and 200 (12.57, 25.95) and teamed up with Michelle Petkovsek, Alisa Blank and Avrey Simonson to win the 1,600-meter relay race  in a meet record time of 4:06.3.

Another Comet relay team – the boys’ 800-meter team of Travis Heschke, Brogan Kendziora, Brandon Anderson and Nic Joch – set a new school record of 1:31.92 for Waupaca’s other first-place finish.

Freedom won the boys’ and girls’ titles. Team scores for the boys were Freedom (180), Little Chute (168), Berlin (70), Winneconne (60), Waupaca (53), Ripon (48), Clintonville (46) and Fox Valley Lutheran and Xavier (38). Team scores for the girls were Freedom (140), Berlin (110), Fox Valley Lutheran (98), Winneconne (88), Waupaca (62), Little Chute (61), Clintonville (56), Xavier (48) and Ripon (35).
