Indians clinch softball championship

The race for a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference softball championship won’t come down to the final regular-season game.

Weyauwega-Fremont wrapped up the title May 18 with a 3-0 win at Bonduel and can finish 14-0 in CWC-8 play Thursday, May 21, with a home win over Pacelli.

BONDUEL – The Indians took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second inning and added two more in the sixth.

Kiley Akey held the Bears to five hits to get the win on the mound and also had a double. Genna Knorr had two of the Indians’ five hits.

W-F 20, W-B 4 (5 inn.)

WITTENBERG – Karissa Akey had five hits, including two doubles, May 14, in a win over the Chargers.

W-F scored twice in the first inning, seven times in the third and once in the fourth before coming up with 10 runs in the fifth.

Kiley Akey added four of the Indians’ 21 hits; Knorr and Liz Hillskotter had two each; and Jordan Krause hit a home run.

Cadyn Ehrenberg got the win on the mound.

SPASH 7, W-F 0

PLOVER – Stevens Point shut out the Indians May 12 in a late nonconference addition to the schedule.

Neither team scored until winning pitcher Aubrey Drohner’s solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. The Panthers added six runs in the sixth and outhit the Indians 10-6.

W-F 13, Manawa 3 (6 inn.)

MANAWA – W-F gave up nine hits to the Wolves, but held Manawa to three runs.

The Indians took a 9-0 lead with five runs in the first, one in the second and three in the third before Manawa got on the board with two runs in the third and one in the fourth.

W-F added four runs in the sixth.

Rachel Knorr and Miranda Potratz had three of the Indians’ 14 hits, while Jordan Krause and Genna Knorr added two each.

Kiley Akey picked up the win and Haley Reierson took the loss.

Skye Amador and Claire Kreklow had two hits each for Manawa.
