T-Birds get the hits

But Cardinals get the Division 3 regional win

Pacelli mustered only three hits off of Iola-Scandinavia in a Division 3 regional baseball final June 5.

The biggest one came off of the bat of Andy Tepp, as his two-out single in the bottom of the seventh gave the Cardinals a 6-5 win over the Thunderbirds.

The T-Birds had advanced to the final by opening the WIAA state tournament with wins over Rosholt and Manawa.

Pacelli 6, I-S 5
STEVENS POINT – The Cardinals trailed 5-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but came up with two runs on two walks, a hit batter, a sacrifice, a wild pitch and Tepp’s walk-off hit.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning and Pacelli took a 2-1 lead with a run in the third. Kal Fischer’s three-run double in the fifth gave the T-Birds a 4-2 advantage.

Pacelli tied the game at 4-4 with runs in the fifth and sixth, but Jayden Sivertson’s RBI double with two outs in the top of the seventh gave the T-Birds a 5-4 lead.

The T-Birds outhit the Cardinals 9-3, but also committed three errors.

I-S 11, Rosholt 1
ROSHOLT – The T-Birds scored four runs in the top of the first inning June 3 and went on to eliminate the Hornets.

I-S put the game away with five runs in the seventh and outhit Rosholt 11-4.

Nate Korb got the win on the mound as the T-Birds improved to 11-11.

I-S 10, Manawa 1
IOLA – I-S opened WIAA state tournament play June 2 by knocking off the Wolves for the third time this season.
