Vets home honors Purple Heart recipients

National Purple Heart Recognition Day is Friday, Aug. 7.

On that day, Armed Force members who were wounded, killed or died after being wounded are honored throughout the country.

The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King are recognizing 24 veterans who are recipients of the Badge of Military Merit, better known as the Purple Heart.

On Sunday, Aug. 23, the Military Order of the Purple Heart and Ladies Auxiliary will host its annual King Day.

The military order is a veteran service organization composed of military men and women who received the Purple Heart medal for wounds suffered in combat.
