Battle reenactments highlight Aug. 8-9 event

A variety of historic displays will highlight the 24th annual Iola Vintage Military & Gun Show with Vintage Tractors and Equipment.

Held at the Iola Old Car Show Grounds on Aug. 8-9, the show covers a variety of collector’s interests.

Each morning there is posting of the Colors, along with singing the National Anthem.

Vintage military vehicles and memorabilia will be displayed by private collectors. Swap vendors will offer a variety of military items and collectibles.

Rides will be offered on a M35A2 (deuce and a half) truck from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

A display of vintage tractors, equipment and engines will provide a glimpse as to how farming was done in days of yesteryear. This year’s feature is hay harvesting equipment, with an oat threshing demonstration at 11 a.m.

Re-enactors will provide living history and weapon demonstrations.

There will be a Vietnam battle re-enactment on Saturday, with World War II battle reenactments on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Indoor Gun Show offers gun-related items, with a variety of exhibits from World War II, Korean War and Vietnam.

The parade features oral descriptions of military equipment and tractors.

Daily gate admission is $8 for adults and free for children 12 years old and younger.
