Barrington, William

William “Bill” Barrington, age 71, New London and Weyauwega, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 23, 2015 in Boise, Idaho prior to a group motorcycle ride with friends.

Bill was born on June 10, 1944 in New London to the late Guy and Lorraine Barrington. He married Fran Lipke on April 17, 1965. Bill graduated from New London High School in 1962. After high school he was employed at Sears in Appleton and worked his way up to assistant manager. In 1967, he joined the US Army and served in Vietnam, where he was awarded the bronze star twice. Bill and his wife Fran owned and operated Modern Flooring in New London for 25 years. Bill was very active in the New London community and was a member and past president of the New London Lions Club. He was also a volunteer firefighter, a hospice volunteer and an active foster parent. Bill served on the New London School Board for 10 years and also as the president, where he presented both of his children with their diplomas. He was a very active member of the New London United Methodist Church, a member of the Blue Angels motorcycle group, an American Legion member, a member of the American Legion Riders and an EAA volunteer. Bill served on the executive and finance committee for the United Methodist Church Foundation. Bill was an organ donor.

Bill was Fran’s rock, and the love of her life; He was the World’s Greatest Dad to his daughter, Chris (Mike) Davis, Minneapolis, MN; son Eric (Nanci) Barrington, Portland, OR and the Most Awesome Grandpa to Walker and Mac. Bill is further survived by his brothers, Gary (Rita), Manawa; Jim (Roberta), Winsor, CO; Bob (Katy), Beaver Dam; Bruce (Doylene), Harrison, AK; his mother-in-law, Frances Dexter, New London and also other relatives and many friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Lorraine Barrington.

Funeral services for Bill will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church, New London with Rev. Joyce Rich officiating. Visitation will be held at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home on Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 3-6 p.m. and also at the church on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Full military honors will be held. A memorial fund has been established in Bill’s name.
