Manawa unable to overcome Bonduel’s early lead

By Holly Neumann

The Bonduel Bears kicked off to start the game against the hosting Manawa Wolves, during the Friday night conference matchup in Manawa.

With possession of the ball going back and forth the Bears got on the scoreboard with 1:48 on the clock, when Preston Robaidek ran the ball in. Robaidek later kicked the extra point, putting the Bonduel up 7-0.

On Manawa’s next possession, quarterback Brandon Radloff threw the ball only to have it intercepted by Trevor Pederson. Pederson later attempted to throw the ball only to have Caden Lick intercept for the Wolves.

During the second quarter of the game Manawa’s Luke Wilz tucked the ball away and on third down, ran the ball 47 yards for a touchdown. The Wolves could not convert for the point after touchdown, leaving the Bears still ahead at 7-6.

Neither team was able to get to the end-zone again, ending the half, with the score remaining at 7-6.

The Bears scored again early in the third quarter when Pedersen passed the ball to Eric Ballestad. Robaidek again kicked the extra point giving the Bears a 14-6 lead in the game.

With the ball going back and forth between the teams and time running out of the clock the quarter ended at 14-6.

The Bears started out the fourth quarter on the 6 yard line and were able to push Blake Stoss over the goal line. Robaidek once again kicked the extra point putting the Bears up 21-6.

Manawa was not able to move the ball on their next possession, which allowed Bonduel to take over the ball.

On fourth and long, the Bears attempted to punt, but Zach Kreklow blocked the ball , giving Manawa possession on the23-yard line.

Ethan Hass got the ball to the 10-yard line, and then to the four, then into the end-zone on the next play. Hass later ran in the 2-point conversion, bringing the score to 21-14.

Bonduel was not able to move the ball bringing up fourth and 3 at the 50-yard line, forcing the Bears to kick the ball away.

Manawa took over the ball on Bonduel’s 9-yard line, when Radloff went back for a pass only to get sacked in the end-zone by Elijah Mastey for a safety, closing out the scoring at 23-14.
