Margaret was born on June 4, 1930 at her family’s home in the Town of Union, Waupaca County as the daughter of the late Emil and Margaret Emilia (Pruess) Detert. Margaret attended Pioneer Grade School and worked on her family’s farm. She was united in marriage to Carl Mehlberg on May 24, 1950. As a young woman, Margaret and her brother Lawrence formed a band that played for local celebrations. Margaret was the guitarist and Lawrence played violin. After marriage, Margaret worked for the Hanson Glove Factory in Clintonville and later farmed with Carl at their farm in the Town of Dupont. Food was a major part of her life as she was an excellent cook. Nobody ever left her table hungry. She even cooked for a time at Triple O Supper Club. Margaret later became a Dietary Supervisor at Clintonville Hospital, then held the same position at the Greentree Health & Rehabilitation Center, also in Clintonville. After retiring, she went back to farming full time with Carl and helped raise the light of her life, her grandson Robert. After retiring from farming, Margaret and Carl had a few more adventures; delivering the Appleton Post Crescent and Shopper’s Guide to area residents as well as cheese for Dupont Cheese. Margaret had a very strong faith. She was born into the church at St. Mark’s Lutheran in Symco where she was baptized, confirmed, and still a current member. At St. Mark’s Margaret taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, was a member of Busy Bee’s, Altar Guild, and Sarah Circle. She deeply loved her family, cherishing time spent with them.
