Scarecrow Contest seeks entries

An autumn tradition in Waupaca

The Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce is recruiting shops to participate in the 10th annual Scarecrow Contest.

Participating stores and offices make, then display scarecrows from Oct. 12-30.

The public votes for their favorite scarecrow by making cash donations. One cent equals one vote.

The scarecrow that raises the most money will be the winner. All money raised will be donated to the Waupaca Food Pantry.

The public can enter a drawing for the gift certificate prize packages. No purchase is required.

Drawing slips and collection pails will be placed in each participating business and the chamber office. The winners will be contacted by phone on Nov. 3.

The business that wins the Scarecrow Contest will receive a $400 advertising package compliments of Waupaca County Post, Waupaca Buyers’ Guide, Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce, and WSPT 97.9, WPCN B104.9 & 92.1 & 1010, Muzzy Broadcasting.

Votes will be accepted Oct. 12-30. The voting cans will be collected on Nov. 2, and the winner will be announced on Nov. 3.

The deadline to sign-up for the Scarecrow Contest is Sept. 18 and participants must be chamber members.

Participants must use a scarecrow frame provided by the chamber and pay a $30 deposit for the frame. The deposit will be returned when the undamaged frame is returned to the chamber by Nov. 6.

Participants must also provide a $25 gift certificate to their business to be included in a drawing for the general public. The deposit and gift certificate are required at the time the scarecrow frame is obtained from the chamber.

Frames will be available Oct. 1-9.

To reserve a frame, contact Kathy at 715-258-7343 or [email protected].
