Week at home ends in win, loss

Hortonville soccer team now has 3-3 record

The Hortonville boys’ soccer team picked up a win and a loss at Hortonville High School’s Akin Field last week to make its overall season record 3-3.

Hortonville 5, St. Mary 0
Hortonville came away with a 5-0 victory over St Mary Central High School on Monday, Sept. 14.

Freshman goalkeeper Owen Engel kept the shutout for 70 minutes and then Isaac Tews continued it for the last 20 minutes. Engel had two saves and Tews had one.

St. Mary’s defense had a more tiring night on its hands. Two St. Mary goalies racked up a combined 23 saves.

Kimberly 7, Hortonville 2
The Kimberly Papermakers broke the deadlock after a scoreless 30 minutes and landed a 7-2 victory over the Polar Bears on Thursday, Sept. 10.

Hortonville’s Jon Quale made the first goal at 56:54 with an assist by Jake Biese. Jake Buhler scored Hortonville’s second goal one half a minute later with help from assist Jake Biese at 57:32.

Engel had 10 saves and Tews had one. Kimberly’s goalie had four saves.

The Polar Bears’ next home game is against Neenah on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. However, they’ll play one town over at New London High School five days earlier on Sept. 24 starting at 6:30 p.m.
