Mattes, Ramona “Monie” A.

Ramona “Monie” A. Mattes, 84, of La Crosse, passed away Saturday, Sept.12, 2015, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

She was born March 21, 1931, in Weyauwega, Wis., to Louis and Alvina (Yonke) Boushley. On Aug. 21, 1954, she married Jarvie L. Mattes in Weyauwega, Wis. Together they founded and served the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in La Crosse for 42 years until their retirement in 1997. Monie and Pastor Mattes were great disciples of Jesus Christ and witnesses to His faith. They served the Lord in a humble manner. Their compassion, devotion to God, and love of their congregation will be carried on in the hearts and spirits of the many people whose lives they touched. On January 15, 2005, Jarvie preceded Monie in death. Monie was active as a Sunday School Teacher and Vacation Bible School Teacher. She also was a member of the Good Shepherd Prayer Chain, Good Shepherd Care Ministry, Good Shepherd 60th Anniversary Committee, Lutheran Church Women President, Church Women United, and Bethany Lutheran Homes; as well as participating with Mobile Meals and quilting for Lutheran World Relief. She also volunteered for a number of organizations and she was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers. Monie’s passions were gardening and keeping herself educated as she would sign up for classes at WTC three and four times just in case she missed something. Her biggest passion was her grandchildren; taking them camping when they were younger and attending their sports and school activities.

Survivors include a son, Michael (Diane) and their children, Rian, Dillon, and Alison; son, Matthew (Karen) and their children, Kristin and Sara; son, Martin (Michelle) and their daughter, Raena; and daughter, Mary (Jarrod) Turk and their children, Ethan and Kaycie; sister, Mercedes (David) Schmidt; brother, Roger (Marian) Boushley; brother-in-law, Lawrence Schiedermayer; two sisters-in-law, Mae and Pat Boushley; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Monie was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark in 1968; four brothers, Greg, Rueben, Alfred, and Truman; and a sister-in-law, Audrey Schiedermayer.
