St. Martin welcomes new staff

Schley, Barkow start at Lutheran school

By Bert Lehman

Calista Schley and Heather Barkow are new staff members at St. Martin Lutheran School in Clintonville.

Schley graduated from Concordia University with a degree in Early Childhood.

Originally from Fremont, Schley taught first and second grade in Antigo last year.

At St. Martin Lutheran School she’ll teach third grade. There are 14 students in her class.

She said the school year has gotten off to a good start and she has a goal of getting to know her students, as well as the families of her students.

In addition, she said she enjoys helping and watching her students grow throughout the year.

Barkow, who has mentored and volunteered at St. Martin Lutheran School in the past, will be a teacher’s aide for fifth through eighth grade this year.

She is originally from Clintonville.

“My kids go to school here so I feel that it’s good to be helping, not only my own children, but other children in the community that go to school here,” Barkow said.

Being able to work with children of different ages is appealing to Barkow.

“I think giving most of the fifth through eighth graders who need some one-on-one help, giving them that attention that they weren’t as able to get as much before,” Barkow said.
