Essay contest winners announced

The Waupaca County Veterans Service Office recently organized an essay contest for all Waupaca County high school students.

The 500-word essays had discuss one of three categories related to the U.S. Constitution: its relevance today, the freedoms provided and the rights and privileges it guarantees.

The Veterans Service Office awarded certificates and monetary prizes to the first, second and third-place winners. The students along with two family members were also invited to attend the Veterans Program at the Waupaca County Fair on Aug. 27, where the students read their essays and participated in the program.

First place was awarded to Raina Eddy, second place to Cal Hruska and third place to Matthew Waldschmidt.

ThedaCare, Waupaca Foundry, American Legion Posts 176 Weyauwega, 226 Manawa, Auxiliary Unit 161 King, and DAV Auxiliary Chapter 53 Manawa sponsored the contest.
