Ham radio history explored Sept. 28

Iola Historical Society to present program

In today’s world of smart phones and high-speed Internet, ham radio may seem like a bygone technology. But what was once a huge hobby still has many advocates.

Bob Kasson, a longtime ham-radio enthusiast of rural Iola, will present a program on ham radios on Monday, Sept. 28, in the Iola Historical Society’s Machine Shed, 222 Depot St., Iola.

Kasson will talk about the history of ham radios, plus the past and present day uses for them. He will also give an indication of how many people in the area are ham-radio operators.

He will have some equipment on display as well as books on ham radio.

The free program is open to the public and starts at 7:15 p.m., after the society’s regular monthly meeting, which starts at 6:30 p.m.
