Indians pick up Homecoming win

Scheer helps lead W-F over Chargers

By Greg Seubert

Brandon Scheer scored three touchdowns and ran for 182 yards as Weyauwega-Fremont handed Wittenberg-Birnamwood a 32-27 Central Wisconsin-8 Conference loss.

Scheer scored on runs of 41 and 47 yards and also caught a 49-yard touchdown pass during the Indians’ Homecoming game.

His first touchdown capped the game’s opening drive, but the Chargers also found the end zone on their first drive, as Matthew Kapitz connected with Kyle Adamski for a 17-yard TD pass.

Logan Bosquez threw a 49-yarder to Scheer in the second quarter, but W-B took a 14-12 lead on Kapitz’s 37-yard TD pass to Preston Bagley.

The Indians turned the ball over on their next drive, but W-F’s Trevor Flease picked off a Kapitz pass and returned his first of two interceptions 80 yards for the Indians’ third score.

The Chargers weren’t finished, as Kapitz hit Preston Bagley with a 13-yard TD pass with 50 seconds to go in the first half.

Griffin Magee added to W-B’s lead with a 3-yard run in the third quarter to make it 27-25, but those would be the final points the Chargers would score.

The Indians regained the lead on Bosquez’s quarterback keeper from a yard out with 2:49 remaining in the game.

W-B had a chance to retake the lead, but turned the ball over on downs with just over a minute to play.

The Chargers outgained the Indians 352-320. The Chargers also turned the ball over six times on two fumbles and four interceptions.

The Indians improved to 2-4 on the season and 2-2 in CWC-8 play. W-F will take on Bonduel at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Shawano Middle School.
