I-S girls take first at invite

Waupaca boys place third in Winneconne

One look at the final results and it’s easy to see how Iola-Scandinavia’s cross country team returned from the Winneconne Invitational with the small school girls’ championship.

The Thunderbirds had the top three runners and placed all five of their runners in the top 15 Sept. 22 at Lake Breeze Golf Club.

Erika Kisting, Leighten Fischer and Jada Beacom turned in the three fastest times (19:56,2, 20:10.1 and (21:41.6), while teammates Natalie Rustad finished eighth in 25:31.6 and Haley Ullom placed 15th in 27:12.2

Team scores were I-S (29), Laconia (45), Gibraltar (56), Valley Christian (107) and Wayland Academy (108).

Erick Kriewaldt was the only runner for the T-Bird boys’ team and he placed sixth in 19:19.

Waupaca competed in the large school division. The boys placed third behind Neenah and Appleton East with 81 points, while the girls placed sixth behind Neenah, Appleton East, Winneconne, Oshkosh North and Little Chute with 123 points.

Placing for the boys were Mitchell Rotta (third, 17:15.6); Hunter Smith (13th, 17:48); Ryan Esch (19th, 19:01,2); Danny Esch (25th, 19:19.4); Ben Waitrovich (28th, 19:34.8); Dayton Bell (36th, 21:20); and Sam Christie )37th, 21:59.9).

Placing for the girls were Michelle Petkovsek (fifth, 20:58); Kenzie Schultz (22nd, 22:49.6); Mya Snyder (30th, 23:11.5); Victoria Nowak (31st, 23:31.5); Kristin Petkovsek (35th, 24:10.7); Ashley Jeske (37th, 25:29.4); and Lexi Tripp (41st, 28:51.8).

Westfield Invitational
WESTFIELD – The Waupaca boys and girls placed third and fourth, respectively, Sept. 24, in Westfield.
Placing for the boys were Rotta (second, 17:42); Smith (ninth, 18:24); Danny Esch (14th, 19:21); Ryan Esch (24th, 20:02); and Waitrovich (28th, 20:19).

Team scores were Monona Grove (22), Marshall (73), Waupaca (77), Westfield/Montello (91), Berlin (97), Pardeeville (213), Adams-Friendship (219), Bangor (222), Rio/Fall River (226) and Columbus (230).

Placing for the girls were Michelle Petkovsek (seventh, 21:59); Schultz (18th, 23:23); Nowak (19th, 23:36); Snyder (24th, 23:54); and Jeske (28th, 24:26).

Berlin won the girls’ title with 28 points, followed by Monona Grove (55), Marshall (77), Waupaca (92), Columbus (110), Westfield/Montello (160), Rio/Fall River (183) and Pardeeville (223).

Hortonville Invitational
GREENVILLE – Weyauwega-Fremont competed at the Hortonville Invitational Sept. 26 at Greenville Lions Park.

The boys placed seventh, while the girls finished fifth.

Placing for the boys were Andy Schroeder (21st, 19:55); Duane Brazil (35th, 21:55); Glenn Walborn (38th, 22:59); Chris Strehlow (40th, 24:07); and Logan Feltz (24:31).

Team scores were Hortonville (41), New London (75), Pulaski (83), Bonduel (101), West De Pere (113), Clintonville (132) and Weyauwega-Fremont (176).

Placing for the girls were Caragan Volz (ninth, 21:26); Daisy Wilson (17th, 22:06); Saylor Alberts (36th, 23:46); Natalie Schneider (42nd, 25:58); Emily Durrant (44th, 30:43); and Jade Miller (45th, 33:21).

Team scores were Pulaski (27), Hortonville (65), Clintonville (66), West De Pere (81), Weyauwega-Fremont (148), Bonduel (157) and New London (167).

Pacelli Invitational
STEVENS POINT – Iola-Scandinavia and Manawa headed to Stevens Point Sept. 26 for the Pacelli Invitational at Iverson Park.

The Manawa boys and I-S girls placed sixth and fifth, respectively, while the Manawa girls and I-S boys did not field complete teams.

Placing for the Manawa boys were Andrew Scheller (19th, 18:47); Jared Zielke (22nd, 19:01); Scott Schneider (48th, 21:34); Jonathon Lubahn (53rd, 22:12); Sebastian Wagner (56th, 22:35); and Thompson Moser (62nd, 25:18).

Placing for the Manawa girls were Lexi Smiles (51st, 19:09); Jody Wentworth (53rd, 19:13); and Brianna Severson (66th, 21:15).

Placing for the Iola-Scandinavia girls were Kisting (second, 15:25); Fischer (4th, 16:01); Beacom (17th, 17:07); Rustad (44th, 18:33); and Ullom (62nd, 20:22).

Placing for the Iola-Scandinavia boys were Kriewaldt (16th, 18:43); and Trenton Niemi (60th, 24:13).
