Barden, Franklin (Bud)

Franklin (Bud) Barden, age 90, of Amherst, WI passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at his residence.

Bud was born in the Town of Buena Vista on September 8, 1925, the son of the late Forest and Pearl (Fletcher) Barden. Bud attended Amherst High School leaving school as a freshman to tend to the family farm. On July 27, 1946 Bud married Anna Ebersdorfer at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in the Town of Lanark. Bud and Ann lived on the family farm for 69 years where they raised their 10 children. Bud started his career as a heavy equipment operator in 1951. He worked for AJ Pagel & Pagel Construction until his retirement. Bud enjoyed farming, raising dairy, beef and hogs. He shared his knowledge with his children and neighbors’ children through 4-H as a leader. Bud was an avid sports enthusiast. He played baseball for Buena Vista as well as coached for Buena Vista and Lanark baseball teams. Bud enjoyed watching the Brewers and Packers. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Bud taught his sons the love of deer hunting, which carried through to his grandchildren. He spent his last years enjoying driving his four wheeler with his dog Lady to check out the animals and crops. He would always take his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren exploring around the farm. He is a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church.

Bud leaves behind the love of his life, Ann Barden, Amherst; his children: JoAnn (Jack) Doyle, Amherst; Tom (Patty) Barden, Almond; Bob (Chris) Barden, Plover; Karen (Mick) Wennesberg, Tell City, IN; Gary (Sandy) Barden, Almond; Mike (Val) Barden, Amherst; Pat (Dave) Kamke, Green Bay and Mary Jo Barden, Waupaca; 21 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Bud was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jim and John Barden; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Barden and his brothers and sisters, Wayne and Rowena Barden, Mae Barden, Myrtle and Wayne DeLong, Roy and Pearl Barden, Charles and Leone Barden, Viola and Tom Lorek, Gladys and Clifford Floistad, Gerald and Esther Barden, Hazel and Otto Teschner and Lorraine Barden.

The Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, October 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, Town of Buena Vista with Father Jim Trempe and Father Ted Lewandowski, co-celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Town of Lanark. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. The family will also greet friends on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass at the church.
