Don enjoyed teaching at the Waupaca Middle School. When he retired, he said that he never felt like he was going to “work.” He just told Marge that he was going to “school.” Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the church council and youth committees there. He was an avid reader, enjoyed mostly mystery and spy novels and loved trivia of any kind. He enjoyed many hobbies such as woodworking and gardening and collected many things like stamps and coins. Don also volunteered at the Waupaca Area Food Pantry and the Waupaca Area Historical Society. Most of all, Don enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren.

Don will be dearly missed by his wife, Marge; their four children, Kate (Brett) Gile of Waupaca, Beth (Steve) Yelk of Pulaski, Mary (Scott) Arnoldussen of Waupaca, and Josh Writt of Montello; six grandchildren, Madie and Carsten Gile; AJ, Holly, Henry and Lena Yelk; one sister, Anna (Writt) Verber of Green Bay; and one brother, Richard (Jeanne) Writt of Clintonville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and John Writt and his brothers-in-law, David, Nathan and Donald Heuer.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca.
