Truckers capture girls’ division title

Clintonville cross country team wins in Wisconsin Rapids

The Clintonville Truckers girls’ cross country team won the Division 2/3 Title and Kara Pyatskowit captured the overall individual title with a 19:29 finish at Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday, Oct. 10.

Clintonville coach Jeff Crumbaugh said this makes Pyatskowit’s fourth overall title of the season, and with her exceptional workouts lately he suspected she possessed “the necessary tools to win in a big field at Wisconsin Rapids.”

“Kara led start to finish, startling runners in the chase pack from Stevens Point, Manitowoc and Marshfield. They worked hard to catch her, but she kept throwing in surges at the crests of hills and wore them down,” Crumbaugh said.

Sophomore Taylor Young also earned a spot on the podium with a 15th overall finish in what Crumbaugh said was Young’s best race of the year, and the rest of the team helped, too.

“Clara Vo, Beth Klemp and Brooke Wespetal contributed to our victory, as each runner passed 3 opponents in the last 200 meters. All three runners have remarkable speed,” Crumbaugh said.

The boys’ team finished at the end in 17th.

Marion invitational
The boys had a stronger day at Marion, taking the title along with the girls’ team in a five-team race on Oct. 5.

Clintonville junior Trent Marheine ran an 18:37 5K to win the boys’ title in his first overall victory. Pyatskowit claimed the girls’ title in 20:02.

“I was happy that Trent Marheine captured his first overall victory,” Crumbaugh said. “Kara Pyatskowit and Taylor Young continue to demonstrate their depth with outstanding performances on a difficult course.”

Seven Clintonville girls finished in the top 12 and five boys finished in the top 15 on what Crumbaugh called one of the most demanding courses in the state.
