By Greg Seubert

Weyauwega-Fremont’s volleyball team picked up a pair of recent nonconference sweeps.

The Indians took all three games from Gillett Oct. 15 and Wild Rose 13.

W-F defeated Wild Rose 25-18, 25-16, 27-25.

Team leaders included Genna Knorr (11 assists, eight aces, 14 service points); Jordan Rucks (10 assists); Courtney Gorges (14 digs); Karissa Akey (three solo blocks, one block assist, 15 kills); and Hailey Krause (one block assist, 16 service points).

“This was a good win as we head into the playoffs,” coach Rena Tomaszewski said. “It will give us a little more to work with at the seeding meeting as well as boost the team’s confidence. We are hoping to get a third seed.”

That’s exactly what the Indians received in the team’s Division 3 bracket. W-F opened WIAA state tournament play Oct. 20 at home against No. 6 Amherst. The winner of that match will play the winner of the match between No. 7 Iola-Scandinavia and No. 2 Shiocton at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in a regional semifinal.
